Region C Directors E-Mails
Jen Lipe and Randy Nelson
The Region C website is available for EVERYONE

If you have not already done so, please create an account by following the steps below _*and*_ encourage the Chapter Directors to do the same. This is the best way to make sure the state and chapter information is current, i.e. chapter director, meeting time, place, and event dates. It really is very easy to do.

Next encourage all of the members to subscribe to the weekly electronic
newsletter. The webmaster has a program that pulls information from the
website, compiles it into a newsletter, and sends it each week via e-mail.

Each chapter has the opportunity to post on the web page and contribute to
this newsletter. Mine is in the inbox every Monday morning without fail.

To create a new user account click on the following
URL http://gwtac.com/backdoor. To sign up, put in your e-mail address as a user name, check the new user box and submit button. You willbe prompted for your information and then your new account will be created. Once that's completed, you'll be able to log in at any time and
update all the state information (keeping it up to date). Also at that time, people will be able to click on your name on the website and forward e-mails to you with questions regarding your state without revealing your e-mail address.

Please also forward (optional) any photos you may have of yourself
to be presented on the page as well as any chapter or state logos you might have. These will be applied appropriately (see the GWTA-C
homepage at http://gwta-c.com for an example on how those are used).

Please help keep the Region C website active, informative and current.

Chapter Olympics-Chapter H/Iowa Bronze

I know there are other chapter’s who qualified for the Chapter Olympics, but I have not heard from State Directors or Olympic coordinators who those Chapters are.

Thank you to Wayne Flora and Steve Houston for coordinating the Light Parade line up.  With the help of Mary Flora, Judy Houston and Tom and Sharon Hilgemeier the light parade went off without a hitch.  There were a total of 233 bikes that stretched 5 miles long.  We were lucky enough to have the light parade double back on itself so that all participants could see the light parade while still riding.

While at Gold Rush the newest Chapter in Region C was signed up.  Welcome and Congratulations to Chapter RR of Mandan/Bismarck.  Keith LaCoe and Sandy Newcomb are the new Chapter Directors of the Rough Riders.

A congratulation to the Larson’s of Region F as the new National Family of the Year.  Eric, Chris, Teresa and Stacie are from Michigan.

The bike raffle was won by a lady in Canada who originally chose the Harley.  But once she worked through the logistics of customs and shipping/handling she realized she would be better off with the $10,000.

Congratulations to the Seven Chance winner was Dallas Craig of Virginia who walked away with the full $5,000.  These tickets will be available again this year.  However, a very accurate detailed process of this operation needs to be provided to ensure everyone understands how the Draw vs. Split in the final selection works.  This year proved to be slightly confusing and in all good conscience we need to be very clear when selling and/or buying these tickets to ensure everyone knows what they are doing.

If you have not already heard next year’s Gold Rush will be held in Lexington, Kentucky.  Start planning out your routes now.

After some heavy deliberation and equally heavy pressure Randy and I have chosen to stay on as Region C Directors to help give Region C a chance to stabilize and gain some continuity.   This is only possible with the support of a fantastic staff that was in place long before we came along!  We look forward to that continued support and are ready to provide our dedication, support and service to GWTA.  Region C is the BEST!  We’ll all keep working together to prove it to everyone!!!

Thank you to everyone who is so supportive not only to Randy and me but also to GWTA.  We look forward to GWTA becoming stronger and fun.

See you all in Friendship,

Randy Nelson and Jen Lipe

RE:  GWTA National Board Meeting

It is a privilege to serve as your Region C Board Member of the Gold Wing Touring Association.  We would like to give you a report concerning the meeting which was held on Friday, July 18th, the day after Gold Rush.  Region C has a passion for the affiliate program (Article IV), some members very much in favor of keeping the Article as written and some members very much in favor of change.  A petition was presented to us by GWTA members requesting changes to Article IV.  The petition did qualify for presentation to the board.  The Affiliate Program Bylaw was discussed at length during the Board of Directors meeting.  Four changes were asked for by this petition, each one was considered individually. The petition of requested changes did not pass. The Chairman of the Board and a founder member explained the affiliate program was established for the chapters.  It was to give the chapter members control and autonomy of their chapter.  The limited number of affiliate members in your chapter can be anywhere from 1% - 99%.  Touring motorcycle can be any road worthy motorcycle.  One item was a redundant phrase and the last request for an affiliate member to be considered for a Region Director position.

There was some wording changed concerning the term for the Chairman of the Board.  Several years ago, the board terms changed from two years to three years, the bylaw was changed to reflect the term of Chairman of the Board from two years to three years.

When discussing types of memberships.  The Grandchild membership was approved approximately 10 years ago and never added to the by-laws.  The board took official action for this addition.
As your Region C Board Member we would like to encourage the following:
1)   Do everything in your power to make your chapter strong.
2)  Show compassion to everyone in your chapter – Each person (affiliate or
member) deserves the same respect.  The club is made up of people not
     motorcycles.
3)  Step up to leadership positions.  GWTA needs you!!  Do you have ideas –
please share them.  When everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot.
4)  Get behind the Chapter Rookie of the Year – these new members are your up
and coming leaders – encourage them.
5)  Chapter Director, do you call (not email) but talk face to face or by phone with
your members when their memberships are about to expire?  What about
creating a position for this very important task?
It was so nice to see many of you at Gold Rush and YES, we missed those of you who were unable to attend.  We fell in love with Montana, it is such a beautiful state, and we would go back in a heartbeat.  We would like to close with again telling each one of you, it is a pleasure to be your representative.
