Proper Riding Apparel
Let's talk about proper riding apparel. First of all we want our gear to be appropriate for the weather and riding conditions. Ideally we should always wear long pants, long sleeve shirts or jackets and over the ankle shoes or boots, full finger gloves, eye protection, and finally a helmet with a minimum of DOT certification. Let's start with our footwear. Hard soled over the ankle boots is the best type with a slip resistant sole. Our long pants should be of an appropriate material to provide us a fair amount of protection from loosing our hide should it come in contact with the pavement, Heaven forbid. Anything less will provide adequate protection. Our long sleeve shirt or jacket should be of a material that will provide us with as much protection as possible, as well as being comfortable. A light jacket is handy as it can be removed when not riding. The helmet, regardless of style should have at least a DOT approval. Eye protection is a must and can take the form of glasses, goggles, or a face shield. A windshield on the bike will usually suffice legally but does not completely protect you from dust and dirt swirling the air around the windshield. These are basic items of riding gear. You should also have additional items such as rain gear heavier or lighter items of clothing to compensate for changing weather conditions. Remember these things apply to the co rider as well as the rider.
Let's practice safe riding by wearing the proper gear, perfecting our riding skills, and maintaining the proper attitude while on
the road.
Safety is for life.
Protecting Those Numb Fingers…
a surprising find in your first-aid kit
We have all ridden in cold weather and despite having heavy gloves, possibly including extra liners, those fingers get too cold and begin to numb. (By the way, silk liners offer better cold weather protection than heavier cloth liners.)
Here is a tip dig into your first-aid kits. Pull out a set of latex gloves and put them on over the liners, then put your regular
gloves on over the latex gloves. It's amazing how effective how warm your hands will be.
(You do carry latex gloves in your first-aid kit, right?)
